A Most Magnificent Monday & Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What an absolutely magnificent weekend it was here in Santa Monica! Wow! The winds whipped up a bit throughout the weekend, but it didn't stop everyone from enjoying the 68-72 degree temps and crystal blue skies. Ahh, to live and love LA!

The highlight of my weekend was most definitely attending the Human Rights Campaign Annual Dinner Gala . And what a Gala it was! The biggest of the ballrooms at the Century Plaza Hotel was the location of what is absoltely considered to be THE ultimate star-studded fundraiser for the Gay Community. This year, celebs like Anne Hathaway (yum), Neil Patrick Harris and Ricki Lake accepted awards and presented honorees. The evening was full of lots of classic gala activities- schmoozing & networking, silent auctioning, live auctionin- from purebred puppies to cruises around the world, drinking lots of wine and dining on hotel chicken. And the people-watching was FAB!

Thank Goodness, it's 2008!

I had a most unexpected new years eve. My neighbors Dave & Alice throw a party to celebrate New Years in London, since Dave and many of his friends are from England. He logs onto the BBC over the internet and plays Big Ben gonging at 4pm our time. Well the afternoon became the evening, and we celebrated new years twice! I drank way too much, and am certainly feeling it today.

I don't know about you, but I am so relieved to have 2007 behind me. It was a year fraught with big challenges for me, mostly around money. The biggest lesson I learned, though, was how unnecessary money is in the grand scheme of things. Yes, it's critical to have in this era. But it is nothing but a tool.  Having it or not does not define us as people. We are no better or no worse as people with or without it. And who we are and how we make a difference in the world is what matters.

In 2008 I resolve to deepen my connections with the Gay & Lesbian Community in Los Angeles. I resolve to deepen my connections with my local community of Santa Monica. I resolve to spend more time on the phone connecting with my past clients. I resolve to spend more time on the phone, in general. My colleague says: "The Money is in the Phone". I see it a little differently. Relationships are in the phone. As a result of those relationships, prosperity flows....Oh yeah, I also resolve to date more!

Any predictions about the real estate market in '08? I think there will continue to be people who need and want to buy and sell real estate. I think there's never a bad time to buy real estate, especially if you're buying for lifestyle. Rents here in LA are over $2500/month for a 1 bedroom apartment! That's not to say you could buy a place for a smaller or equivalent monthly payment...you really can't. But for a bit more, you can be owning and applying over $30,000 a year toward a mortgage instead of paying your landlord's mortgage. Free Lesbian Video

I am in the process of doing a ton of internet marketing research. I have to say, this whole world of Web 2.0 is overwhelming. I was an early adopter to the Web...I was online in 1994, building my first website, "The Entrepreneur's Wave". It was a bookstore for small business owners. It was an expensive lesson in what not to do when you're starting a small business. Oy! The money I spent! What were you spending money on in 1994?

I chose this title for the article because, in my research, I have learned that a huge number of web surfers that are searching on things related to 'lesbian' are searching on the phrase "free lesbian video"...to the tune of about 3300 per day!...interesting, eh? An awful lot of voyeurs in the world...

Yet no one is searching on "lesbian real estate agent"...what's up with that? Real estate agents aren't sexy? I was amazed when i saw this stat. There are at least two dozen directory sites that charge lesbian real estate agents annual fees to be registered. They promote the fact that they have top ranking on the search engines. Top ranking on the search engines when someone searches on what???

That's when I realized it was critical to just put myself out on the web. Promote that I am a fun gal, and do great things for clients that call on me to help them buy or sell real estate.

LA Lesbians that Opted Out

Last year, my dear friends Wendy and Karen made a huge life decision: they left LA and bought a custom-built Adobe-style Dome home in Taos, New Mexico! Imagine that! Wendy has always been a Flower Child. I never believed she was long for Los Angeles. But she loved her life and lifestyle in Santa Monica. She rented a permanent mobile home in an RV park on Pacific Coast Highway with 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean.

They found the house on the Internet and flew down within a week and made an offer. Now the live there! It's hard for me to believe. They've been together for just coming up on 3 years, and decided to exchange vows on the anniversary of their move to Taos.

I just returned from my trip to witness their union. WOW!!! What a magical experience. The ceremony was beautiful. The Buddhist Jewish Cantor's daughter who performed the service was magnificent. The house was absolutely the perfect back drop for this experience.  It was a zany collection of LA friends, Tao friends and families from both sides. Some traveled in from as far away as Boston!

I had to share this magnificent picture...it tells the magical story better than I ever could.
